The exquisite wines of the Adelaide Hills are shaped by its cool climate and altitude, the changing seasons, and the skill and passion of the winemakers.
The Adelaide Hills wine region is known for its elegant cool climate wines. Located in the Mount Lofty Ranges 20 minutes east of Adelaide, the region is Australia’s largest geographical wine region, and one of the most diverse in terms of climate, soil and topography.
The Barossa wine region is a contemporary region with a European tradition of celebrating food and wine that spans seven generations. The Barossa wine region has a long history of making full-bodied reds, fortified and robust white wines.
The Barossa (zone) consists of the lower, warmer Barossa Valley (region), which is suited to producing award-winning Shiraz, and the cooler higher Eden Valley (region), famous for its Riesling.
The Barossa region produces a great variety of wine, with the main styles being Chardonnay, Riesling, Semillon, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
South Australia’s beautiful Eden Valley, known as the garden of grapes and gums, is one of Australia’s premier cool climate wine regions characterised by its rugged beauty and varied topography.
Eden Valley was named by the surveyors of the area after they found the word "Eden" carved into a tree. Overall the region is characterised by cooler conditions than its famous neighbour, the Barossa Valley, and as such the final stages of ripening and harvesting take place in cooler temperatures.
The number of wineries in Eden Valley is small but the region has a significant influence on Australian winemakers. Eden Valley's signature varieties are Riesling and Shiraz, however it also produces Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
McLaren Vale is famous for its intensely flavoured Shiraz as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and a range of new Mediterranean styles. Expect a warm welcome at the mostly family-run boutique wineries.
Nestled between the Mount Lofty Ranges and white sandy beaches, the picturesque region features rolling hills, vineyards, a rugged coastline and charming villages.
The region is ideal for grape growing. The climate varies according to proximity to the cooling influence of the nearby ocean, which means that different varieties do well in different locations.
