King Valley is one of the most picturesque and un-touched valleys in Australia. Located between Wangaratta and the Alpine National Park and approximately 3 hours north-east of Melbourne, the region has become known as Australia’s home of Italian wine varietals.
With a range of microclimates from the slightly warmer valley floors to the bracingly cool upper slopes, the region can produce such a wide range of wine styles due to this variance in elevation. Notably, King Valley is one of the highest altitude grape growing regions in the country.
Pizzini Wines, a relatively young winery, is located in the heart of the King Valley region. A family run winery, Alfredo and Katrina Pizzini established Pizzini Wines based on their passions and their commitment to family and Pizzini’s Italian heritage.
Planting their first vines in 1978, it was almost 20 years (1994) before they produced their first wine under the Pizzini label. You can sense the Italian spirit as soon as you enter the Pizzini cellar door, with a real family feel to the property. Today, all of their four adult children work in the business alongside Alfredo and Katrina.
Pizzini’s Old World Flavours, New Vintage Wines experience is a must-do when visiting the winery. Enjoy a structured tasting at the cellar door, experiencing both current and back vintage wines while discussing the Italian wine varietals and how the vineyard site and the different ‘makers’ techniques have influenced wine styles over the years.
After your tasting, select a glass of wine to enjoy with a picnic basket in the cellar door garden followed by dessert with tea of coffee.
Commitment to family and Italian heritage is at the heart of Pizzini Wines. Located in the picturesque King Valley, the family owned winery and vineyards are surrounded by spectacular alpine scenery. A sight for sore eyes, it simply must be ticked off by all wine lovers.
