When Josef Chromy fled his war-torn Czech village in 1950 to come to Australia, he had no money and no place to call home, only his skillset. With proficiencies as a Master Butcher and Smallgoods Maker, over a 40 year span Joe built his own business, Blue Ribbon Meat Products, into a leading brand in Tasmania.
This paved the way for investment into the wine industry, including the development of some of Tassie’s top wineries Rochecombe (now Bay of Fires), Jansz, Heemskerk and Tamar Ridge. In 2007, Joe launched Josef Chromy Wines, which in its short life has already amassed numerous trophies and hundreds of medals for it’s wine produce.
Nowadays you can still find Joe tending to his vineyard on chilly Tassie winter days, making sure that everything is just so, a true testament to his hard work and dedication.
“Loyalty is a quality I value highly and this definitely affects my investment decisions. We do at times look elsewhere but so far there have been sufficient quality opportunities in this State that I love”
